My academic research on history and anthropology of magic

Ziemia przodków - folklor - duchy pomocnicze. Czarostwo neoludowe i koncepcja chowańców w twórczości Rogera J. Horne'a (PL)

In this paper I discuss the phenomenon of traditional witchcraft and, more precisely, one of its contemporary currents: (neo)folk witchcraft. My analysis of the phenomenon is based on a specific case of folk witchcraft as described and taught by occultist and book author Roger J. Horne. In the paper, Horne’s folk witchcraft is placed in the wider context of traditional witchcraft inspired by the work of Robert Cochrane, and reduced, for analytical purposes, to its most important components: the magical use of ancestral land, local folklore, and familiar spirits.

Demon Evocation as a Ritual Model of Interaction with Supernatural Agents (ENG)

In this paper I aim to analyze a practice of demon evocation, and compare it to shamanic ecstasy and spirit possession. The comparison is based on the anthropological discourse on the relationship between different altered states of consciousness in religious ritual, which was led by the researchers: Mircea Eliade, Luc de Heusch, and Gilbert Rouget.

Polowania na czarownice w XVII-wiecznej Nowej Anglii w perspektywie koncepcji kolektywnego wrzenia Émile'a Durkheima (PL)

The goal of the article is to show how the concept of collective effervescence by Émile Durkheim facilitates the shift in Cognitive Science of Religion by emphasizing the interrelationships between the human mind, body, and social life. The concept is applied in the analysis of the witch trials of 17th century Salem, Massachusetts.
