Who am I?
Hello!
My name is Alicja Borowik-Bohuszewicz. I am a scholar studying cultures, religions and alternative spiritual beliefs and practices. I am currently based at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, working on my my PhD thesis titled "The problem of demon evocation in magical practices: an anthropological perspective". Outside of demons-based magic of history and contemporary times, I research all things unusual, peculiar and strange: folk magic in modern cities, postmodern witchcraft, shamanic altered states of consciousness, chaos magick and digital occult.
When I don't research, I write prose - both classic and interactive, branching stories with multiple endings. I usually root my ideas for characters, storylines and worlds in the occult systems and strange pantheons that I got to know while writing my PhD and studying Religious Studies.
I feel most at home in the new weird fiction, cosmic horror, and everything gothic, symbolic and psychological. You could prepare a fiction stew made of Southern Reach series by Jeff VanderMeer, True Detective (the first one; we will not speak about the others), Planescape Torment (it will always be fresh to me), and White Wolf's game systems to make me very happy for a very long time. Diving into my writing, expect this kind of atmosphere, for I try to create what I enjoy consuming. Naturally.
Are you interested in some kind of collaboration? Tired of not having a scholar of the occult on your event, or maybe searching for somebody to doctor a narrative, a cast of characters or a world's lore for you? Do you need a storyteller who could work in both Polish and English?
Let me know!
